We caught up with Lizzie King, a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry at Circus Dental to find out more about her role and what this area of dental treatment involves.
What is your main area of dentistry?
My main areas which I focus my clinical activity on include dental implantology, removable and fixed prosthodontics, management of tooth wear and management of temporomandibular discorders.
What treatments are you offering to patients at circus dental?
I am currently offering the following treatments:
- Crowns, bridges and dentures
- Composite bonding for tooth wear and aesthetics
- Dental implants
- Botox to treat bruxism
What can patients expect during a visit with you?
As a Restorative Specialist, we are trained to a specialist level in prosthodontics (removable appliances like dentures), endodontics (root canal treatments) and periodontics (gum treatments). This allows me to comprehensively treatment plan a case holistically using the most current evidence-based care in multiple specialties.
Patients can expect a thorough examination, diagnosis and treatment plan, with the recommendation of treatment best suited to their dental needs. This may include treatment with me, or multi-disciplinary care within our wider dental team at Circus Dental.
What top tips would you tell a patient who might be feeling nervous about having restorative dentistry?
Talk to your dentist about your concerns - our number one goal is to put your interests first.
We do everything we can to tailor our treatment to your needs, and the best way we can do this is to understand your preferences.
What do you teach at Bristol uni and why is teaching an important part of your career?
I am a Consultant Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol and lead undergraduate and postgraduate education in Dental Implantology.
I am the Programme Director for the Dental Implantology Masters and take huge pride in training dentists how to plan, place, restore and maintain dental implants.
Educating the dental team plays an integral role in my career. When you teach a dental discipline, you need to understand it completely and meticulously. Education continues to significantly advanced my clinical knowledge and keeps me up-to-date with the most current evidence base. This not only benefits my students; I believe it improves my patients experience and outcomes.
Do you have a top dentist memory you’re able to share?
A standout memory was placing implants for a patient who had hidden their smile in photos for over a decade. Months later, they returned with family pictures from a wedding, smiling confidently in every shot. Seeing that kind of positive change is what makes restorative dentistry incredibly rewarding.
