Why might you need a dental implant?

Do you have a failing or discoloured tooth, a denture that moves when you eat or struggle to eat the foods you enjoy?

If so then dental implants may be able to help you. A dental implant serves as a replacement option for the root of a missing tooth. It is carefully placed into the jawbone beneath the gum line, providing a sturdy foundation for a replacement tooth or bridge. The result is a natural looking tooth that closely mimics the functions of your natural teeth.

What can dental implants be used for?

Dental implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They can also support other dental tooth replacement options, such as bridges or dentures, providing stability and functionality similar to natural teeth.

Our experienced team are able to offer options from single to multiple teeth replacements, together with the ability to replace missing bone and gum to ensure the best possible long term success and appearance of the replacement teeth.

How do dental implants differ from natural teeth?

While dental implants may resemble natural teeth in appearance and function, they differ in a few key ways.

Material: Dental implants are typically made from titanium, a biocompatible material that integrates with the jawbone. Natural teeth are composed of enamel, dentin and pulp.

Attachment: Unlike natural teeth, which are anchored by roots, dental implants are anchored directly into the jawbone through a process called osseointegration.

Maintenance: Dental implants require regular oral hygiene practices such as brushing and flossing, just like natural teeth. However, they cannot develop cavities. Nonetheless gum health is crucial to maintain around implants.

How are dental implants put in place?

Dental implants are placed under local anaesthetic (we also offer sedation) and the recovery is usually straight forward. There is often some swelling for a few days after, but very little discomfort and this is controlled by over the counter pain relief.

We use the latest techniques (3D bone scans, computer planning and in-house technicians) to ensure the most accurate and natural outcome possible.

We are pleased to take referrals for complex situations, previously placed but failing implant cases, together with cases requiring a multi-team approach.

In summary, dental implants offer a durable and natural-looking solution for replacing missing teeth, providing patients with restored functionality and confidence in their smiles.
