What are fixed braces?

Often referred to as train track braces, fixed braces are a popular and reliable method for teeth straightening.

Using a thin wire connected to brackets on your teeth, the tension is manipulated to slowly, over time, guide your teeth into the desired position.

Four to six weekly checks at the dentist enable this tension to be adjusted as needed to change the direction of the teeth.

At Circus Dental we offer a couple of different types of fixed braces including:

  • Traditional metal braces - these consist of metal brackets attached to your teeth and connected by wires which can be tightened and loosened to help move your teeth into position.
  • Gold metal braces - these are champagne in colour. The same as traditional metal braces but subtle in colour.
  • Clear, ceramic braces - these are a less visible version of the traditional metal braces, using clear ceramic brackets and a thin wire which is harder to see.

What are the benefits of fixed braces?

Our dental team will be able to talk you through the different teeth straightening options available and will explain in depth the different benefits of each one. Some benefits include:

  • Fixed braces can be used to treat a range of different issues including severe cases.
  • They are a predictable, reliable treatment which move your teeth gradually but precisely without any break in treatment like removable options.
  • As explained above, there are discreet options now available so treatment can be undertaken without disruption to the appearance of your outward facing teeth.

How long do fixed braces take to work?

The length of time you will need to wear fixed braces will depend on your specific requirements. Our dental team will work with you to build a bespoke treatment plan which meets your smile’s needs.

A straight forward, simple treatment to align the front visible teeth only may take just a few months. However severe cases can take up to a year or more. Speak to one of our team today to book a consultation and talk through your requirements.
