Every September, dental and medical teams around the world pause to mark World Patient Safety Day - a moment to recognise that great care isn't just about skilled hands and the right equipment, it can also be about the invisible details that keep patients safe before, during, and after treatment. This year, we're shining a spotlight on one of those invisible details which you might not have even noticed or thought about… the air in our surgery.
Why Air Quality Matters in Dentistry
Dental treatment is, by nature, an aerosol-generating environment. Drilling, scaling, polishing, and even routine check-ups can release fine airborne particles and droplets.
For patients and staff alike, the quality of the air they're breathing is just as important as the sterility of the instruments on the tray. That's why Circus Dental have Jade air purifiers installed - a dedicated air filtration system, designed to continuously capture and remove airborne particles, aerosols, and pathogens from the practice environment throughout the day.
What Our Air Filtration System Does
- Continuous air exchange – circulating and filtering air multiple times per hour to reduce the concentration of airborne particles between and during appointments.
- High-efficiency filtration – capturing fine particulates, including those generated by dental aerosols, before they can recirculate around the room.
- Quieter, calmer treatment rooms – modern filtration units run discreetly, so patients can relax without a noisy backdrop.
- An added layer of protection – working alongside our existing infection control protocols, PPE, and instrument sterilisation to give an extra layer of patient safety.
Safety You Can See - and Safety You Can't
Patients often judge safety by what's visible: clean surfaces, sealed instrument pouches, gloved hands. Air filtration is part of the safety story that's harder to see, but no less important.
On World Patient Safety Day, we want our patients to know that the same care and diligence applied to what they can observe is also being applied to the air they breathe while in our chair.
"During the pandemic we chose to invest in air filtration to help protect our patients and team. Although a lot has changed since then, our view hasn't. High-quality air is one of many small details that contribute to a safe, comfortable environment, and it's something we continue to value highly."

Our Commitment to Patient Safety
Patient safety isn't a single system or a single day - it's a culture built from many small, deliberate choices: rigorous hand hygiene, sterilised instruments, well-trained staff, clear communication, and yes, clean air.
Our air filtration system is just one more way of us saying that your safety and comfort matter here.
This World Patient Safety Day, we're proud to celebrate not just the technology in our practice, but the team behind it too who are committed, every day, to making sure that when you visit us you are receiving the highest level of care and safety possible.
