What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery involves surgical procedures in the mouth or jaw, such as tooth extractions, wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, surgical orthodontics, soft tissues lumps and growths, typically performed by a specialist or experienced oral surgery clinician.
Who can have oral surgery?
Oral surgery can be used to treat children, adolescents and adults for a range of reasons.
Why might I need oral surgery?
Here at Circus Dental we are able to help our patients using oral surgery for a range of treatments including:
- Tooth extractions - including wisdom teeth, impacted teeth and retained roots.
- Surgical orthodontics - as part of an orthodontic (braces) treatment plan where a tooth is unlikely to erupt into the mouth without help or need removal.
- Dental implants.
- Apicectomies - removal of infection at the tip of the tooth root. This is often carried out by our root canal treatment team (Specialist Endodontists).
- Grafting - bone and soft tissues (this can include using the patient’s own bone/soft tissues, or using a substitute material) to rebuild the bone for planned dental implant placement to replace missing teeth.
- Sinus lifts - this treatment is usually carried out alongside dental implant treatment, with the aim to make more space when placing dental implants. It involves creating more space for bone to grow, and using a bone substitute to act like a scaffolding to hold the space until the body, over time, creates new bone in the area.
