Professor Shanon Patel
Shanon divides his time between specialist practice and teaching at King’s College London Dental Institute. In 2007, he was probably the first Endodontist in Europe to regularly use CBCT in practice.
His main research interests are CBCT, root resorption and the restoration of root treated teeth. He has supervised 70+ Masters/PhD students and published over 100 papers.
Shanon is recognised internationally as a leading authority on CBCT, treatment outcomes, and root resorption and was lead author of 4 European Society of Endodontology position statements (CBCT 2014, 2019 and External Cervical Resorption 2018, Root resorption 2023).
Shanon has been invited as a keynote or plenary speaker at over 150 international meetings spanning 5 continents and has co-authored 4 textbooks which have been translated into 5 different languages.
Mr Simon Harvey
Simon is a consultant and a GDC registered specialist in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. He completed specialist training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ before moving to UCLH and Queen Victoria Hospital in 2020. His subspecialty clinical interests are dentoalveolar cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and salivary gland interventional radiology.
He is co-editor (with Shanon) of ‘CBCT in Endodontics’ which has been translated into several languages, including Japanese, Chinese and Portuguese. He has written multiple guidelines for the use of imaging in dentistry including BDJ “guidelines for reporting CBCT scans”, DDU journal “processes and procedures in CBCT referrals” and Royal College of Radiology iRefer guidance.
He has an interest in dentolegal disputes and holds a Master’s degree in Medical Law and Ethics from the King’s College London School of Law. He sits on The DDU Dental Advisory Committee and acts as an independent expert witness.
